Google Workspace Editions: Choosing the Right Plan per User

How Google Workspace editions differ, the 300-user limit on Business editions, and how to match each user to the edition they need without overpaying.

By the MI Solutions SAM team8 min read2 exhibits

Google Workspace comes in families of editions: Business editions for smaller organizations and Enterprise editions for larger ones, plus frontline and education variants. Business Starter and Business Standard support up to 300 users. Above that, or when advanced security and compliance features are needed, organizations move to Enterprise editions, often for everyone, even though many users would be well served by less.

Typical Workspace personas

01Frontline

Shift-based staff who need email, chat and shared documents on mobile or shared devices.

02Standard office user

Documents, meetings, shared drives and moderate storage.

03Advanced user

Large meetings, recordings, advanced analytics or larger storage.

04Compliance-sensitive

Legal, security and leadership roles that need advanced controls and retention.

Leaver accounts

Rather than keeping departed employees licensed to preserve their data, transfer ownership or use an archive option where available, and release the license.
